Sedation Dentistry

We can make your dental visit more comfortable with sedation dentistry. Sedation describes the medications and techniques to help a patient feel calm and be in a relaxed-thinking state while dental treatment is provided. You may be very sleepy but, you will be awake and able to talk during treatment. We make your comfort a priority at every visit.

Dr. Amorteguy has received special training to become one of a small number of dentists qualified to use oral conscious sedation. Are you ready for an exceptional experience?

Would I benefit from sedation dentistry?

If you are uncomfortable going to the dentist you are not alone. Are you someone who cannot sit in a dental chair for any period of time, or have your mouth open for a long time comfortably? We understand and can help. Some people avoid seeing a dentist for several years because of a previous experience. Sedation dentistry also offers busy people the ability to complete several dental procedures in a single appointment. The effectiveness of sedation is amazing for those who hate the sound of the drill, people with a strong gag reflex, or those who come to us with dental pain in more than one area. We will take care of you. Our priority is to make the process of helping you with your smile enjoyable. You have never been away from dentistry too long to begin care.

What are the techniques used in sedation dentistry?

Dr. Amorteguy offers scientifically safe and time-tested options for a very relaxed dental experience.

Nitrous Oxide is one option, also referred to as happy gas or laughing gas. You wear a small mask over your nose and breath deeply It works quickly and dissipates quickly for the elimination of anxiety. The level of relaxation is quickly adjusted and, you are able to drive after the appointment.

Oral Conscious Sedation involves swallowing a pill or liquid medicine that will induce a deeper state of relaxation. There are different types of medication, it depends on the condition of your health and length of treatment time. It is very likely you will remember little of your dental treatment. An amnesic effect is often associated with these medications and techniques. You are not able to drive home from this appointment, the remainder of the day you will rest and have someone to check in on you.

We will talk about all your medications and supplements at your pre-treatment appointment. Medical conditions like sleep apnea, asthma and being a smoker are important to know in the planning of your care. A thorough review with Dr. Amorteguy will ensure a safe sedation choice is made. It is not for everyone.

We have a warm blanket, neck pillow, music headphones, dark glasses and a Tempurpedic chair pad for long appointments. Our focus is your comfort and safety.
