Techniques Used in Sedation Dentistry
Dr. Amorteguy offers scientifically safe and time-tested dental sedation options for a very relaxed dental experience.
Laughing Gas
Laughing gas, a widely recognized dental sedative, is a safe and effective agent combined with oxygen and delivered through a small mask positioned over your nose to induce relaxation.
During specific dental procedures, Dr. Amorteguy may suggest the use of laughing gas to enhance your comfort. Unlike general anesthesia, it does not result in unconsciousness; instead, you remain awake and responsive to any instructions or questions from your dentist. You’ll be directed to breathe normally through your nose, and within minutes, you’ll begin to feel the effects of the gas. The primary objective is to promote a sense of calmness and comfort. Once the mask is removed, the effects of laughing gas typically dissipate quickly.
If you’re contemplating the use of laughing gas during your dental procedure, it’s advisable to discuss this option with Dr. Amorteguy to determine its suitability for your specific needs.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral Conscious Sedation involves swallowing a pill or liquid medicine that will induce a deeper state of relaxation. There are different types of medication, it depends on the condition of your health and length of treatment time. It is very likely you will remember little of your dental treatment. An amnesic effect is often associated with these medications and techniques. You are not able to drive home from this appointment, the remainder of the day you will rest and have someone to check in on you.
